“The ticking seconds pulled me toward the end. It was cold when he no longer held me. It got colder every step I took away from him. Just my imagination, of course. It was still summer here. It would always be summer here for me.”

“And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him”

“That’s certainly a problem. But that’s not what I was thinking of. It’s just that you are so soft, so fragile. I have to mind my actions every moment that we’re together so that I don’t hurt you. I could kill you quite easily, Bella, simply by accident.” His voice had become just a soft murmur. He moved his icy palm to rest it against my cheek. “If I was too hasty… if for one second I wasn’t paying enough attention, I could reach out, meaning to touch your face, and crush your skull by mistake. You don’t realize howincredibly breakable you are. I can never, never afford to lose any kind of control when I’m with you.”

“How could you fall in love with a three inch worm?”

“What am I dying for?”

“My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn’t like math;in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything.”

“Did you know that ‘I told you so’ has a brother,Jacob?” she asked cutting me off. “His name is ‘Shut the hell up’.”

“He sighed. “The clouds I can handle. But I can’t fight with an eclipse.”

“I honestly have no idea how to live without you.”

“I like the night. Without the dark, we’d never see the stars.”

“He’s like a drug for you, Bella.”

“Um,” Doc said in a mild voice, “medically speaking, I’m not sure that was the most helpful thing for his condition.””But I feel better,” Jared answered, sullen.Doc smiled the tiniest smile. “Well, maybe a few more minutes of unconsciousness won’t kill him.”

“I think being a teenager is such a compelling time period in your life–it gives you some of your worst scars and some of your most exhilarating moments. It’s a fascinating place; old enough to feel truly adult, old enough to make decisions that affect the rest of your life, old enough to fall in love, yet, at the same time too young (in most cases) to be free to make a lot of those decisions without someone else’s approval.”

“I am not really breaking any rules. Charlie said I could never take another step through the door again… I came in through the window… Still, the intent was clear,” said Edward.”

“I know – I’ll play you for it,” Alice suggested. “Rock, paper, scissors.”Jasper chuckled and Edward sighed.”Why don’t you just tell me who wins?” Edward said wryly.Alice beamed. “I do. Excellent.”
