“Don’t let others box you into their idea of what they think you should be. A confined identity is a miserable way to exist. Be you and live free. Trust that in living true to yourself, you will attract people that support and love you, just as you are.”

“Some people think they can find satisfaction in good food, fine clothes, lively music, and sexual pleasure. However, when they have all these things, they are not satisfied. They realize happiness is not simply having their material needs met. Thus, society has set up a system of rewards that go beyond material goods. These include titles, social recognition, status, and political power, all wrapped up in a package called self-fulfillment. Attracted by these prizes and goaded on by social pressure, people spend their short lives tiring body and mind to chase after these goals. Perhaps this gives them the feeling that they have achieved something in their lives, but in reality they have sacrificed a lot in life. They can no longer see, hear, act, feel, or think from their hearts. Everything they do is dictated by whether it can get them social gains. In the end, they’ve spent their lives following other people’s demands and never lived a life of their own. How different is this from the life of a slave or a prisoner?”

“The more you try to please people, the more they get control of you and you’ll end up hurting yourself.”

“Follow your heart, listen to your inner voice, stop caring what others think.”

“Tanrı için kanıt aramayın. Sadece olun, risk alın ve yaşamınızdan haz alın. Önemli olan budur. Hayır demek istediğinizde hayır deyin. Evet demek istediğinizde evet deyin. Sizin kendiniz olmaya hakkınız var. Ancak yapabileceğinizin en iyisini yaptığınızda kendiniz olursunuz. En iyisini yapmadığınızda, kendiniz olma hakkını elinizden alıyorsunuz.”

“Whether you try too hard to fit in or you try too hard to stand out, it is of equal consequence: you exhaust your significance.”

“It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”

“Be yourself. Don’t worry about what other people are thinking of you.”

“Everyone’s on the cliff edge of normal. Everyone finds life an utter nightmare sometimes, and there’s no ‘normal’ way of dealing with it… There is no normal, Evelyn.”

“Those who have a strong sense of love and belonging have the courage to be imperfect.”

“Everyone has a sense of humor. If you don’t laugh at jokes, you probably laugh at opinions.”

“Stop comparing yourself to others. Always strive to improve yourself to become better today than you were yesterday to serve those around you and the world.”

“Never apologize for burning too brightly or collapsing into yourself every night. That is how galaxies are made.”

“The pressures on gay teens can be overwhelming–to keep secrets, tell lies, deny who you are, and try to be who you’re not. Remember: you are special and worth being cared about, loved, and accepted just as you are. Never, ever let anyone convince you otherwise.”
